What is an open jam?
An open jam is a recurring event where musicians who did not arrive together are grouped into ad-hoc lineups around shared songs, rather than each performing their own prepared set.
The difference from an open mic is who plays together. At an open mic you perform your material alone or with your own group; at an open jam a host assembles players by instrument around a song from a shared songbook.
Because groupings form on the night, open jams depend on a shared repertoire and on knowing which instruments each song still needs.
