What is a transposition?
Transposition is shifting every note and chord in a song up or down by the same interval, moving the song into a different key while keeping the relationships between the chords intact.
Bands transpose most often to fit a singer's range, to make a part easier on a particular instrument, or to match another song in a set.
A capo achieves the same result on guitar physically: clamping at the second fret and playing the shapes for G sounds like the key of A. The shapes stay familiar; the key changes.
Slash chords need care — in a chord like D/F#, both the chord and the bass note have to move by the same interval, or the voice leading breaks.
